Chicago Tech Companies List

How many technology-based business are there in Chicago? Here’s an attempt to catalog them. The initial iteration had 350+ companies and it only scratches the surface. Naturally, the list will be growing.  We’re now over 500 companies listed.

When we run a story on one of these companies, the story will appear underneath the company’s listing.

If a company’s Chicago presence is a branch office, it will be marked as (Chicago Office). Some out-of-town companies seem to have trouble distinguishing between Chicago and suburbs like Downer’s Grove and Lisle. As such, if the local branch office is in the ‘burbs, the company will be designated (Chicago-ish/Suburban Office), despite how it may be labeled on the corporate website. To paraphrase Mayor Daley when Mike McCaskey was threatening to move the team, “If they’re playing in Gary, they’re not the Chicago Bears.”

Otherwise it is assumed the company’s origins are local.
